China has traditionally been a major buyer of United States (US) hardwood exports. These 2 nations have positioned themselves as major players in the world-wide trade sector. In fact:
- US Goods and Services trade with China totaled $410 billion in 2007. During this period, China imported
approximately $222 million of hardwood lumber from the US.
- The US and China have together accounted for over 50% of the world economic growth in the last decade.
- The US has become the leading exporter of hardwood lumber and logs in the world. Hardwoods account for approximately 88% of the value of US lumber exported to China.
This conference explores the opportunities and
barriers confronting the US hardwood market in an increasingly challenging global economy. Industry leaders from both the US and China will converge to discuss strategies to improve trade relationships and
eliminate common trade barriers.
